Travel With Us
National Geographic considers Costa Rica to be one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world! In fact, Costa Rica is home to more than 5 percent of the whole world’s biodiversity even though its landmass accounts for only 0.03 percent of the earth’s surface. But it’s not all just thick rainforests and incredible wildlife; Costa Rica is also known for their gorgeous beaches and captivating volcanoes. There is an endless amount of reasons why Costa Rica is one of the most sublime countries in the world, yet they still have numerous environmental, economic, and social issues that need our attention and assistance.
Arrive in San Jose (SJO) airport, where a Lift Our Planet staff member will meet you and escort you to the hotel. Settle in and join us for a volunteer Welcome Dinner in the evening.
Travel to Hogar Sol, a low income area of San Jose, where you’ll be volunteering with children awaiting adoption in the local Children’s Home. The state provides only the basics for the children; volunteer tasks are determined based on need. Eat dinner with the group at the hotel, and enjoy a free evening to relax and explore.
Journey to the Caribbean coast after breakfast, where our boat captain will transport us to the Pacuare Research Station. Receive your training and safety briefing before starting your first night shift, where you’ll be patrolling the beach looking for nesting adult turtles or monitoring the nests and hatchlings in the hatchery.
Continue your duties as a sea turtle conservation volunteer. Maintain the station and hatchery, clean up the beach, and help release baby turtles to the ocean in the evening!
Head back to the mainland for breakfast before embarking on a white water rafting adventure along the world famous class 3 and 4 Pacuare River. Eat lunch on the river, change into dry clothes, and journey down the coast to the town of Puerto Viejo, where you’ll have the evening to relax.
Experience Costa Rica from above via zipline with 8 aerial platforms, 13 ground platforms, a tarzan swing and a superman cable! Take the afternoon to relax on the beach, visit the local wildlife rescue center, or explore Puerto Viejo.
Explore the jungle during a fascinating hike to Grape Point for a breathtaking view, and expect to see plenty of monkeys, sloths and colorful birds. Enjoy the rest of your day relaxing on the shores of Punta Uva.
Head back to our San Jose hotel and take advantage of your last day in Costa Rica with a free day to shop, explore and relax.
Say goodbye to your fellow volunteers and travel to the airport with a Lift Our Planet staff member who will assist you in checking in for your flight.
